WHAT I SAY

THE HORIZON IS CURVED, GOLDEN, AND NEAR

Oh, time flies, doesn't it?
What a whirlwind of a summer and fall.
I don't even know how to update this properly... but here's a bulleted list because that seems to be a recurring blog theme:
  • I'm in love. Again. Some more. It's different this time. It's logical and soft, easy and laughter-filled, lustful and strong. We've traveled, we've danced, we've moved in together, and we're happy.
  • ....and we're expecting a little one come March 2018. Though, my guess is April, but I hope March. It's been a summer of trimester and fear, anxiety and change, and an excellent way to send off the past bizarre year.
  • I've had a hard time focusing and fighting through fatigue the first trimester, but now that the second is here... I'm aching to paint. I managed to whip up a painting for one of my favorite non-profits THINK KINDNESS. Brian and I went to high school together and his work with students affected by poverty, bullying, and kindness is absolutely remarkable. I honor the fact that I get to use my art as a tool of participation and support for his cause. This year's first place in the Think Kindness challenge was a little school in Sherwood, Oregon--St Francis Sherwood School. They documented over 11K acts of Kindnesss and collected close to 2k pairs of shoes. Bravo, yeah? Here's their trophy:

Pretty spectacular!
  • I also worked on a special project, near and dear to my heart. My dear friend Scott lost his son to a hit and run driver October 15th 2017. Tanner was 24 years old and a creative, talented, and loved soul. I painted a portrait of him for his father. A monochromatic portrait of Tanner in his youth with the reflection of adult Tanner, his hip hop alter ego Khase Williams, in his eyes. If  you'd like to donate to the memorial funds, here is a link. Anything helps.

Sorry for the reflection. I should've snapped pre-framing, but I was in a bit of a hurry.
  • I've submitted yet another set of designs to the artown poster of 2018. They reject me every year, but like a really really stubborn and late phoenix, i keep rising and uh... trying. Plus, I've already spent the poster money on baby stuff in my head. And medical bills.
  • I'm having a little art show at Redrock Bar February 2018. Thrilled to be asked, thrilled be paint something other than Reno Tarot, and can't wait to get the ball rolling. I've had several shows here over the last fifteen years and they are all fun, broadening, and successful. It's a neat little spot if ya'll haven't checked it out. A staple of Sierra Street and a sideshow all it's own.
