two midway game podiums fronts (privately commissioned and NFS)
it's already july. i've been working on this private commission for some time. friend of a friend with some money to spend asked me to paint midway backdrops, podiums, etc for their private bbq this summer. it's been a great project. i've been given verbal guidelines and really let myself go creatively and visually. i'm starting to think i can really make it as an artist. after five or six rejection letters this year... after losing my bid at residency and sierra arts art grant... after not getting the commercial space of my dreams... i still think i can do it. i've developed a new slogan for myself "the art you need from someone you like." pretty much sums it up and i think the statement's confidence is trickling over into actual manifestation. i'm really hoping to keep this ball rolling. i've been working paid gigs since the beginning of may and if i can find one or two gigs a month for the next six months---i might just take the plunge. the plunge? toward working my day job less and pursuing my dream more. dasright. i'll be painting silly signs for sippee's for the midtown art walk july 18th. you're not gonna wanna miss this.
